Love and War is a series of photographic compositions inspired by war history and seen from the perspective of the people who were there.
At a military museum I was drawn to vignettes composed of mannequins dressed in uniforms. I photograph these frozen avatars and other elements that are true to that era to tell the story of war.
Every composition contains a heart representing the role love plays in war; Romantic love, love for fellow warriors, love of home and country, the love of freedom and innovation and love for God.
The hearts are shiny and hopeful or broken and burnt. They also represent the forward march of equality between sexes and among races during war.
The subject is relevant today even as told by WWI or WWII props. The great sadness that is war bridges decades and the joy of love prevails.
I would like to thank Camarillo CAF Aviation Museum, Estrella Warbird Museum, Camp Roberts Historical Museum and Annex and Potter's Wax Museum. |
